Now that “Sex and the City” prequel “The Carrie Diaries” is finally out, the obvious next question is whether we’ll ever get to see this 17-year-old Carrie Bradshaw brought to life in a TV show or movie, like her grown-up counterpart.

“It’s not in my hands, so there aren’t any plans at this moment,” Candace Bushnell told us when she stopped by MTV News this week. “We don’t know what’s going to happen.”

“Sex and the City” and “Lipstick Jungle” were both turned into TV shows, but Candace knows that not all optioned novels go on to become successful adaptations. “Every single one of my books has been optioned and one of my books has been optioned twice,” she said. “Sometimes all of the elements come together, and sometimes they just don’t. One piece is off or one part of it doesn’t work. There isn’t that much that you can do about it. With each book, I just try to write the best book that I can.”

But with “Sex and the City 2” hitting theaters on May 27, Bushnell doesn’t deny the thrill of watching her creation live on. “It’s amazing. I’m always in a way flattered by it,” she said. “Everybody who works or has worked on ‘Sex and the City’ came with the same attitude that they wanted to make something great, and that’s an attitude that they still have. I know that Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker approach every movie with wanting to do the best they can and hope that the audience enjoys it.”

And as she waits to see the second movie herself, Candace is already moving on to the next project. “I have to write ‘The Carrie Diaries 2’ as soon as I finish this interview!” she said. “[The sequel is] her first summer in New York. It’s going to be fun. I don’t want to say too much about it because I’ve written a chapter, and now I’m all excited about it.”
